The day
In the walled garden. Seats are unassigned — sit wherever you like.
On the south lawn, with photographs somewhere in the middle of it.
Long tables in the orangery. Short speeches, we promise.
Until midnight, when the coaches leave for Canterbury.
A short history
Introduced at a work thing in Wellington. Neither remembers by whom.
Three years of flights between two islands, which we do not recommend.
A flat in Ponsonby, a dog named Biscuit, an end to the flights.
Engaged on the pier we’re getting married on, in the rain.
What to wear
Garden formal. Long dresses, linen suits, and shoes that can manage grass — the ceremony is on a lawn and the paths are gravel. Evenings in June get cool once the sun goes; a wrap or a jacket is a good idea.
